THE GROUP CHAT

Most Incredible Studio: "Melissa Kimble, who held you down?"

Melissa Kimble: I think it's an underrated miracle to be able to talk to more than one person at a time and when I think about who holds me down, I'm often thinking about how they're able to do that.

The group chat has single handedly changed the way I connect with my person and connect with my people who hold me down. It would seem almost like a dismissal of love to pick just one, so I'm marinating on how these mini clusters of family or friends in their own digital circles have kept me going.

Whether it's my Friday morning prayer group chat with friends who pour divine word and favor into my life, and help me make spiritual sense out of this crazy world we live in. Or the chat with my line sisters and little sisters when we need a comedic escape from our day to day duties.

My Chicago cousins group chat who keep me up to date on all things of the city, of foolery, of our folks. The text tribes who I've joined and formed and regrouped over the years have made living a lot more enjoyable, a lot more accessible, that may be a way for strength, courage, and wisdom in all its many colors.

They hold me down in ways that I will continue to be grateful for.
