You learned to read a record by the grooves. You learned which scratch meant your favorite part was coming. You learned not to walk heavy across the floor while it played.
This is where the sound got made and remade. Two copies of the same record, a mixer, a hand that could hold a beat in place. The rotation never really stopped. It just got passed down.
